This is really cool. The effects at the beginning had me believing that it was going to be a really generic spooky halloween song, but when the 8bit stuff starting rolling in, I was mistaken. You have really unique compositional methods, but I think you can use more unique sounds. The sounds you used were fine, but they just didn't leave an impression. I really like it though. The mixing is quite good, much better than I can accomplish. Happy Halloween!

Neon-Bard responds:

Caught you off guard huh? Haha! :)

"You have really unique compositional methods..."

This means A LOT. I always thought that my style and methods were different (in a good way), but to know that someone else thinks so is just awesome! Thanks! :D

I certainly could have used more unique sounds though! Again thanks for the review, i really appreciate it! :)

Love the sound design on this one. I think the song in general could use more melodic bass. Theres enough in the bass drum, I just think it was lacking in sub bass. Over all, pretty snazzy. What VSTs do you use?

ToRtiK responds:

Mainly Nexus.
Thank you. :)

I really like the drums at the beginning; the clap especially. I do think it can use a little more bass at the beginning to give it a better first impression. With just the acidy synth at the beginning and maybe some organ it just sounds a little thin. Once the bass kicks in at the second part it really starts groovin. Great work though, man. Do you use FL Studio as well? I can hear some hints of it in there.

Halcyon13 responds:

Thanks for the advice, man. That seems to be a fairly common comment. I'll try to add some bass and sub-bass to try to give it a fuller sound. To answer your question, yes I do use FL Studio! I think I mostly used Sytrus and Sawer on this song.

This is my favorite of yours so far.

I can tell you put alot of emotion into this one. The rain sfx was very good. The bell synth brought back memories of runescape. It was rather nostalgic. great upload.

Monesmone responds:

Thanks, The melody came to me after playing around with a set of chimes and the rain, well the song sounded sad to me like a rainy day. I'm glad you liked it.

Gaaaabber

Wow. It's been a long time since I've listened to a gabber song. I like the level the main synth is at. Personally, I think the drums and stuff at the beginning sound alittle dry. Also the intro just doesn't contain quite as much win as the rest of the song. If it wasn't for the awesome main synth, I might have clicked out. (you know, short attention sp-- woah is that a firetruck outs-- anyway..) Towards the end, it starts to sound much better, but still, the snare is slightly dry. Nothing a little reverb couldn't help. Overall, good job.

Hikari responds:

Woo! thanks for the imput. Yeah, im having a bit of trouble with the intro and my main kick. Will add some reverb! <3 Gabber. (the lead is suposed to be super distorted)[i have a real cool gabber setup now! so i wont be using those samples, even though there sexy]

Sounds like something out of HL2

I like the vibes you're portraying in this one. Very creepy. I like how the heartbeat adds to the intensity. It seems as if you die at the end, where everything stops. Still having trouble finding it?

DeathCross555 responds:

Yes.

I don't really like rap, but I'm loving this tune.

I like that you're bringing back the oldskool sounds, man. I like that you're not rapping about the shcrap that some of the really popular rappers rap about; It actually has meaning to me. Personally I think the singing is alittle loud and drowns out your voice. But, other than that, really good.

patrickliberty responds:

yea i felt that way 2, but it's all good, me and benny make a good combo, dont u agree :-)

Nice.

I think it can use alittle more mixing. The bass synth is really cool sounding, but I thought you/muda could bring it out alittle, and the synth at the beginning was alittle too loud. slightly disproportionate, but personally I think that's the hardest part about writing an electronica song. Worth a listen anyway. Thanks for posting.

DJ-Heretic responds:

personally, i thought it woulda been perfect if the main synth wasnt so repetetive, tbh

ohohoho trance.

I enjoyed listening to this one. It has alot of energy. I especially like the little square synths that just float over the top of everything. Over all, a great song. I hope to hear more of your stuff in the future.

bobith88 responds:

I wasn't so sure of this because it was repetitive, but I guess thats trance ^_^. I liked those little synths as well (is it bad to like a song I wrote my self?)

Bring out dat hihat!

This is a good submission. I like how it's kind of mellow in some places, but intense in others. The piano sound was pretty cool. I liked the filter you put on there. Very understated and cool. I think you could have done a better job on the drums. It's very difficult to make decent sounding DnB drums, and you did a good job. However, there seems to be an epidemic of using stock FL Studio drums. I hear it all over the place; you're not alone. In fact, I used to use them until I figured out that when you really look, there are some great sounding drums on the program. Personally, I didn't like the hihat. It was kind of clunky. Other than that, it was really good.

WendallSailor responds:

Haha I know what you mean about the drums ;p I only recently got FL 10 and actually really liked the punch from the kick, so decided to use it. I didn't realise that over 9000 people had been using it, as I haven't really checked out heaps of music around here :P

As for the hi-hats, could you please point me in the right direction of either how to create them, or some good samples? :D Because I just can never EQ them enough to sound good.

Thanks for actually giving me constructive criticism :)

I tecno, danggit!! (sorry, Alex, but it had to be done)
